When I was in China 2 years ago, I was on a journey to find the best juicy pork dumplings. I failed. They just weren’t that good over there. Surprised? So was I. You would think China would have the BEST juicy pork dumplings, also known as Xiao Long Bao. These dumplings aren’t just your average dumplings, they’re much better.  These dumplings have a bit of soup on the inside of the wrapper. There is also a specific way to eat them so you don’t lose all the juice.

Steps to eating a juicy dumpling…
1. put some of your soy sauce mixture into your spoon
2. place your dumpling on top of the sauce
3. bit off the tip of your dumpling wrapper
4. suck up the juice (be careful, it could be boiling hot)
5. eat the rest of the dumpling
6. success!

I scoured high and low for a dumpling restaurant in Los Angeles and came across Din Tai Fung on Yelp. With four stars and over 2,000 reviews, I was sold!

The boy and I trekked all the way out to Arcadia and waited 45 minutes before we got sat. It’s a tiny restaurant, so either be prepared to wait or get there right when it opens. Either way, it is worth the long wait.

Din Tai Fung definitely lived up to the hype. The juicy pork dumplings had the perfect ratio of soup to wrapper to pork. Everything else we got was really good and I can’t wait to go back again.
